Alice is a talented educator/writer with over 8 years of industry experience who has published papers aplenty. However, her resume didn't show what a valuable asset she could be to an employer. The top 3 issues identified with her resume included:
1) An overly lengthy career summary
2) An overly brief description of her work experience
3) A series of skills sprinkled about in random places in her resume.
Career Summary: Her original resume was only 328 words in total yet this section of her resume was over 142 words. That represented nearly 50% of her resume. A summary should be just that - short and sweet. ResumeGuru decided to cut it down to just 22 words focusing solely on her strengths and not her whole skill set.
Work Experience: Though she has worked in a variety of different writing capacities, her current list of past position was far too brief to showcase some of her top accomplishments. ResumeGuru helped to highlight some of her greatest feats including a high pass rate for students, establishing a clear set of standards for writing, creating detailed lessons plans, being able to teach English as a second language.
Skill Set: Though she is skilled in a wide variety of areas, it was extremely difficult to quickly parse visually through and identify all of the abilities she had to offer. ResumeGuru consolidated all of her skills into one section, added a whole bunch more that seemed applicable to her industry and categorized them all for easy reference.
